Ontario Cottage Lifestyles--changing leisure habits
Today's Globe and Mail article by CAROLINE ALPHONSO discusses the changing leisure lifestyles taking place in resort and cottage country. Cottage goers now have the ability to transform all of the city "indoor" leisure activities into the cottage country recreation program with computers, DVD's, TV, video rentals..... all in my opinion taking away from the great outdoors experiences and spontaneous adventures that await in the forests, along the the trails, or in a canoe, or on a wakeboard. Why transform the city to the cottage? Many of those interviewed can rationalize their need for the electronics, however they do so at their peril.....and the peril of their children never truly appreciating our natural world. Get the kids out, exploring on their own, turning over rocks, finding a garter snake sunning on a rock, fishing off the dock ......... the good things that create early memories about life at the cottage and an appreciation for our natural heritage. Embrace nature in cottage country, build a bird feeder, or flower planter out of natural materials, touch the trees, and give those key boards and joy sticks a rest and visit one of the many natural attractions.
