Fall Weekend September 15-17 Is All Canadian North of Toronto
Enjoy Ontario's Great Outdoors
Robert McMillan in this past Saturday Star auto section sings praises for the Georgian College Auto Show & the Canadian Automotive Institute. The largest outdoor auto show in North America takes place next weekend in Barrie Ontario. Our family has attended the show on most weekends in the fall for the past 20 years, and I have a few additional comments to support McMillan's article.
The auto show not only entertains children, they will be thrilled with the turbo-charged test track in addition to the Big Rig Exhibit and the KidZone. Kids get to climb in and out of cars as well as the big rigs. Watch for the tents and all the action just before the Highway 4oo--Highway 11 interchange off of Highway 400 at Duckworth Street at the north end of Barrie. I used to take my kids, and now I will be taking my grandkids. Admission is $5.00. Kids under 12 are free.
Another great family event is the Wye Marsh Fall Festival and the Canadian Wildlife Carving Championships. Families will see many amazing life-like carvings of birds and animals, in addition to all of the family activities. Family canoe rides with Wye March naturalists, children's crafts, Birds of Prey Shows including hawks, falcons and owls, dip-netting, and geo-caching are just some of the fun outdoor activities taking place. During the day visitors will be entertained with continuous music and a variety of folk, country, rhythm and blues. Visitors will also see frogs, turtles, snakes, Trumpeter Swans, and beautiful fall colours as the leaves are changing. Admission per person is $10. Family passes are available. Camping is permitted on the 3600-acre site for an additional charge.
In addition to the mentioned larger venues there are many Ontario fall fairs taking place along with the changing fall colours. Visitors heading north into cottage country should consider combining an event or fall fair with the many suggested fall color road trips highlighted with driving directions on the 400ELEVEN web site.
