Ontario Turtle Time is late May and June
My recent travels into Haliburton and the Kawarthas has resulted in the rescue of a snapping turtle and a painted turtle. This is the time of year when turtles lay eggs in strange places. It is not unusual to see a turtle digging a hole in the gravel of many of the travel routes north of Toronto. Very often they are crossing the road on a mission and many are killed each year. The village of Kinmont in the Kawarthas on the edge of Haliburton has posted a turtle crossing sign, as has the Wye Marsh in Midland. We encourage travels to take their time in cottage country and watch for turtles and other wildlife at this time of year.
