Haliburton County Day Trips

Ontario Road News

Kinmount to Haliburton Village Via County Road 1:

The Village of Kinmount in the Kawarthas has been a hub for Ontario travelers heading North into Haliburton County, and North East toward Hastings County & Bancroft. Kinmont is at the junction of County Road 45 (becomes County Road 503), and County Road 121. See Haliburton Resort Desination; for information on accommodation and attractions.

Driving Times

A direct drive to Haliburton Village from Kinmount would take approximately 30 minutes. One can make this a full day family or couples outing with breakfast followed by a hike, and a visit to the fish hatchery.

Driving Directions

On leaving Kinmount travel north on County Road 121 towards the village of Minden
Watch for the sign County Road 1 to Haliburton Village. You will make a right turn on to County Road 1. This is a short cut to Haliburton Village on an excellent paved road maintained throughout the year; you will see names like Gelert, Lochlin, and Ingoldsby representing the old settlement communities, each with its own very small red brick United Church.

There are three main activity areas along County Road 1 in order as you proceed towards Haliburton Village: Winter Green Maple Syrup and Pancakes (on your left), and the Snowdon Park Wetlands and Hiking Trails (on your left), followed by the Haliburton Fish Hatchery (on your right), In addition to these main attractions, there are antiques for sale, a smoked fish house, and great scenery, a boat launch area, connections to trail systems for hiking and snowmobiling.

Snowdon Park Wetland Preserve

This is an excellent location for a short but pleasant hike. The area is well signed and provides walking trail information and natural history. Snowdon Park is a wetland preserve established in co-operation with the Township of Snowdon and the Haliburton Highlands Field Naturalists. The park contains a self-guided, level trail of about 2.6 km. which winds through an upland mixed forest, and excellent examples of wetlands, from a shallow open water marsh, adjacent to a viewing platform (wheelchair accessible) to a large fen complex and a hardwood forest swamp. Located 0.7 km west of County Road 1, south of County Road 16 (South Lake Road) and north of Gelert

Winter Green Maple Syrup Barn

Genuine Haliburton hospitality awaits visitors with the all day weekend breakfast only on selected weekends during the year. In addition to the traditional maple syrup months of March and April, there are Raspberry Socials, Strawberry and Blueberry Socials in the summer, and Christmas Socials starting off the winter. Socials mean very friendly causal hospitality, second to none. They have special treasure chest for the younger children in the group. Family Friendly and Educational. Great food blended with old fashioned Haliburton Hospitality. You need to call ahead to find out dates to be safe. Wintergreen Maple Syrup & Pancakes, Cty Rd 1,

The Haliburton Outdoors Association Fish Hatchery

The main purpose of this hatchery is to promote the restoration of local lake trout stocks; in particular, the genetically unique strain of "Haliburton Gold". FREE Tours are provided Mon.-Sat. 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. throughout the year. More information on the Haliburton Outdoors Association. Notes from the Publisher: We attended an open house where my grandson caught a trout in the temporary pond set up for the kids fishing and the hosts offered to cook the trout there on the spot (talk about fresh). Haliburton hospitality shines with the HOAFH.
See Haliburton Resort Desination; for information on accommodation and attractions.
