Family Day in Ontario falls on the 3rd Monday in February and is an official public holiday (holiday long weekend) set out by the Province of Ontario on Monday February 18, 2013. Family Day coincides with Canada Heritage Day, and Ontario Heritage week. Both Saskatchewan and Alberta join Ontario and celebrate Family Day as a public holiday.

Ontario 2013 Ontario Family Ice Fishing Weekend
This year Family Fishing Weekend is February 16-18, 2013 (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Monday) is designated as OFFW license-free fishing days. During all other periods, most Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase an OUTDOORS card and a fishing license to legally fish in Ontario.See Ice fishing Getaways for overnight accommodation packages. Backyard Bird Count Family Day Weekend
The annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is coming up on the February 15-18 long weekend on Canada Heritage Day and Family Day Weekend in Ontario. The four-day event is free and is open to bird watchers of all ages and skill levels. Participants watch birds for any length of time on one or more days of the count and enter their tallies. The GBBC is a joint North American project of the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology with Canadian partner Bird Studies Canada. A good place to count birds is the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre in Midland Ontario.

Bring your skates and helmet and take a spin on the pond, or explore our trails with your own cross-country skis. Borrow a GPS unit and do some geocaching. Try our snowshoes and kicksleds for some more traditional winter fun. Adopt a maple syrup bucket and learn more about the Tiffin Centre's eco-friendly maple syrup operation. Warm up at the bonfire with hotdogs and hot chocolate. Some activities are subject to change depending on the weather, but there is certain to be lots of fun.

A 1.5 km trail winds through the park’s wildlife compound where visitors can view some captive Ontario animals such as deer, wolves and a bobcat which would be unable to survive in the wild on their own...also, bears, wolves, owls and swans. Simcoe County Museum is owned and operated by the County of Simcoe and offers year round exhibits, events and educational programs for visitors of every age.
