Toronto to Highway 9
Travel north from Toronto on Highway 400 and you will be entering the gateway to farming country. You feel a dramatic change around Highway 9 as the Holland Marsh comes into focus and you know your are in open country. Highway 9 will take you east to Newmarket and west to Orangeville. Heading to Orangeville will take you into rolling country side with charming villages and resorts such as the Millcroft Inn & Spa, and Hockley Valley Resort noted for their their fine hospitality and access to outdoor recreation.
Highway 400-Highway 9 Interchange to Cookstown (Highway 89)
Close to Cookstown is the town of Alliston where you can find accommodation at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort, or the Red Pine Inn & Conference Centre. A road trip along Highway 89 west will take you into the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation area with Nottawasaga River running through this beautiful rural countryside. Cookstown Highway 89 to Barrie
The next two major intersections off of the 400 are Innisfil Beach Road in the Town of Innisfil and Mapleview Drive in Barrie.
Innisfil Beach Road goes east to Lake Simcoe, and west to the village of Thornton. Regular weekend travelers and road warriors can smell the start to cottage & lake country leading to northern Ontario. One of Ontario's busiest tourist travel and tourism information centres sits off Highway 400 on Mapleview Drive exit. The first exit into Barrie off of Highway 400.

Highway 93 to Midland-Penetanguishene
The first exit north of the Horseshoe Valley Road off Highway 400 is Highway 93 to Midland. A nice side trip is the Old Fort Road Trip to Midland taking you into the heart of Historic Huronia, Georgian Bay and Ontario's early history. An easy loop trip on paved roads bringing you back to Highway 93 Via Highway 12 on the West side of Midland. This is an excellent fall colour road trip. |
Horseshoe Valley To Coldwater Highway 12
Travelling to Coldwater via Highway 400 will take you to the junction of Highway 12. East to Orillia, West to Midland. One of the major attractions as a side trip is the road to Big Chute Marine Railway, one of North America's classic marine railways linking the Trent Severn Historic Waterway to Georgian Bay. Watch for the Parks Canada Signs.

Coldwater to Muskoka Road 5 Port Severn-Honey Harbour.
Drive north on Highway 400 to the Muskoka Road 5 exit. The Muskoka-Simcoe County border runs north west up the middle of Muskoka Road 5 to the famous award wining Delawana Inn Resort in Honey Harbour. Heading south east, Muskoka Road 5 takes you to the town of Port Severn and Lock 45 of the Historical Trent Severn Waterway where several area resort properties provide excellent hospitality. There is a Muskoka Tourist Information Centre located in Port Severn.

Honey Harbour Port Severn to Mactier: Foots Bay Highway 169 Junction
The drive north from Honey Harbour takes you into the Canadian Shield where the rock outcroppings bring a northern beauty mixing, granite, lakes and forests. Highway 400 becomes dually recognized as Highway 400 and Highway 69 just north of Muskoka Road 5.
