The Highway 60 Way West

Highway 60 splits at Barry's Bay Ontario at Highway 62 and proceeds west to Whitney and Algonquin Park, and east to Wilno ending in Renfrew and joining Highway 17 South to Ottawa, or north, to North Bay. Once past Algonquin Park you enter Haliburton County travelling west to Oxtongue Lake, Dwight (Lake of Bays) and Huntsville where Highway 60 ends. Highway 60 takes you through the heart of the northern tip of southern Ontario into eastern Ontario.

Algonquin Provincial Park Area

Today, most Ontario residents associate the name Algonquin with one of the largest designated park areas ‘Algonquin Provincial Park. It is the largest green area designated on the official map of Ontario. In fact Algonquin or Algonquian, is really a nation of which only a part is located in Ontario Algonquin Nation-Pikwakanagan-Golden Lake. Ontario's first nation The Algonquins, are located mainly at Golden Lake, on Highway 60 a 90 minute drive from the East gate of Algonquin Park off of Highway 60. Dwight Ontario--Lake of Bays

Dwight Ontario is located at the junction of Highway 35, and Highway 60, North of Toronto. The town of Dwight is in the resort destination of North Muskoka and is considered a hub to Lake of Bays and the Algonquin Park area destinations. Dwight is the second last town proceeding west toward Algonquin park. There is an excellent beach for a quick swim in Lake of Bays in the town of Dwight just of highway 60. Oxtongue Lake

Oxtongue Lake connects Lake of Bays to Algonquin Park via the picturesque Oxtongue River. Oxtongue Lake offers excellent swimming and bathing along the predominantly sandy shoreline. Maximum depth of the lake is believed to be 90 feet. Fishing is good in the area. Abundant wildlife such as ducks, loons, blue herons, beaver, muskrats, moose , deer and foxes call this area home too. The lake is enclosed by large sections of Crown Lands and the close proximity to Algonquin Park a backdrop of wilderness pleasure. Huntsville Muskoka Ontario

Huntsville Muskoka Ontario is one of Canada's premiere resort destinations dissected by Highway 11 (The Highway 11 Way) and Highway 60. Highway 60 links to the Algonquin Area and Canada's Capital Ottawa. Huntsville is often considered the heart of Muskoka and was chosen to host to the 2010 G8 Summit. A trip to the Huntsville area will quickly define the beauty of this "Muskokas" location. If visitors want to take a walk, hike, or cool off parks and Huntsville Beaches are always close in the summer.
