Ontario Lakes, Rivers, Streams
Ontario Canada is lake country. With the major Great Lakes receiving most of their water from Ontario's Northern Lakes rivers and
streams Ontario is perhaps the largest area of lakes and fresh water in the world. It is reported there are more than 250,000 lakes in Ontario.
Our 400ELEVEN member properties in most cases are located on a lake, river or stream or have quick and easy access to a beach for swimming or fishing
in the summer. Ontario's lakes offer year round recreation choices including ice fishing, skating or cross country skiing in winter. All seasons
involve nearby water. Water is part of the Canadian pshyche. Spring-fall hikes or walks beside a running stream, or along a waterway trail with
a lake vista is a must. Most of all, sitting beside the lake just for the scenery or the evening romantic
sunset for a little relaxation, reflection and beauty can be pleasurable enough.
The closest to Toronto lakes in resort destinations areas are Lake Simcoe, Georgian
Bay, the Muskoka Lakes Lake of Bays region. The Trent-Severn Historic Waterway links Ontario in the north east part
of Lake Ontario to the Georgian Bay-Lake Huron waterways. A bit further north Lake Nipissing is easily accessible via Highway 400 and Highway 11
north via North Bay.
