Maple Syrup Report for Week of March 23, 2009-North of Toronto

Central, northern and eastern maple producing regions should see some ideal sap flow conditions with consecutive freezing nights and thawing days predicted. Weather forecasts for the upcoming week in later areas predict that sap flow may be very good early in the week, again late in the week and continue into next weekend. Ontario Spring Skiing-End of March Break

Ministry of Tourism is reporting a great start to Spring and Spring Skiing north of Toronto

"It’s the first official day of spring and it is going to be a beautiful sunny, early spring type day with temperatures edging up to around the +4 degrees Celsius mark across ski country. Snow surfaces will start off the day as machine groomed granular snow and turn soft later this afternoon. We can expect a great spring ski weekend on the slopes and trails with temperatures reaching the +4 to +6 degrees Celsius range along with lots of sunshine. We still have a few cross country opportunities available as well; however they are limited to the snow belt areas of central and northern Ontario."

Maple Syrup report March 17, 2009- Ontario Ministry of Agriculture. Weather forecasts for the upcoming week suggest good sap flow may occur early in the week and again by the coming weekend. Maple producers can check for new sap flow each day where temperatures warm to around plus 5 C degrees C higher, following freezing nights. Where new sap flow is forecast, try to process previously collected sap from storage tanks as soon as possible to ensure storage for additional sap is available.
