Many of the lighting festivals and ceremonies are tied into Christmas shopping and Christmas
craft events and Santa Claus Parades. Lighting activities continue into the new
year in many towns and cities in Ontario. For Canada this years symbolic Olympic Torch sheds an additional light on the traditional tree lighting

events throughout the world. Here in Ontario one of the significant Canadian ceremonies takes place in Midland Ontario dating back to the early
1600's at the time of the French Jesuits at Sainte Marie among the Hurons. This is First
