| As we approach the winter solstice, a Canadian tradition
to bring light back into our lives as the days grow shorter is a focus
of many community events throughout the world. Here in Ontario one of
the oldest ceremonies takes place in Midland Ontario dating back to the
early 1600's at the time of the French Jesuits at Sainte Marie among the
Hurons. Many of the lighting ceremonies are tied into Christmas events,
Santa Claus Parades, and activities
that continue into the new year. We have prepared a list of lighting ceremonies
with a variety of names including Wonderland of Lights, Mayor's Festival
of Lights, Candlelight walk, Tree Lighting Ceremony, All Light at Night
Festival, Winter Lights, and A Capitol Christmas. Head north of Toronto
for a fresh and colourful season of lights.
