75th Anniversary of the Flight of the Trail of the Caribou

On August 8th 1934, an event of national significance took place at Wasaga Beach. The first successful overseas flight from Canada took off Wasaga\'s long, straight beach which served as the perfect natural runway. Flying a small twin engine airplane named the "Trail of the Caribou". pilots J.R. Ayling and Leonard Reid flew non-stop for 30 hours and 55 minutes to land in Middlesex, England. This flight proved to be the prototype for many that followed with the air bridge to Europe in the Second World War.
