Ontario Fall Trip Advisory: Tips for road trips this Fall in Ontario

The fall season is here in Ontario and the time is right – for an autumn fall color road trip. September and October fall trips can be the most enjoyable. Autumn travel can be a colorful experience. However, sitting in your vehicle for long periods of time is not good for your circulation. The combination of a sedentary drive and only eating fast foods, is not healthy, especially for the elderly.

When you're on the road this fall, don't leave fitness at home. Take regular breaks to walk and feel the crunch of fall leaves, explore, bike and play along the way. Bend over and pick up fall leaves and look closely at the colours. Physical activity is not only good for your heart, but also helps drivers feel more alert and makes kids less restless, calmer and more likely to sleep well. Challenge the kids to a scavenger hunt for the best colored maple leaf.

  • Explore a roadside attraction with picnic tables beside a river or stream
  • Plan to hike a nature trail, take the appropriate shoes, extra pants, hat, sun screen
