Haliburton Winter Fun
Embracing winter in Haliburton County one of Ontario’s northern
four season resort destinations can be exhilarating and refreshing.
Winter sports and activates abound throughout Ontario’s north and
Haliburton County. The towns, villages and settlements of Haliburton Village,
Minden, Harcourt, Oxtongue Lake, Dorset, as well as the south portion
of the world famous Algonquin Park and Haliburton Forest and Wildlife
Reserve.
“A natural work of Art” is often used in the description
of the Haliburton Highlands resort destination, however, this description
falls short of the mix of natural beauty that can be mixed with family
fun, excitement, and winter sports in the north.

Cross Country Skiing:
Haliburton County claims to have the best Nordic Cross Country
Ski Trails in the Province of Ontario, including the Frost Centre Trails.
Trails for both skate and classic skiing and night skiing are available.
Ski Passes can be purchased a many of the 400eleven member accommodation

This is one of the most extensive trail systems north in Ontario.
Curling:
Three curling clubs can be contacted for times and Bonspiels,

and Haliburton Curling Club, Wilberforce Curling Club,
Dog Sledding:
This is a true north activity. Available at the Haliburton Forest &
Wildlife preserve as well as available with overnight accommodation packages
at
Dog Sled derby takes place January 28, 29 at Delta Pinestone Resort.

Downhill Skiing:
Sir Sam’s is open most weeks from Wed. to Sunday, and holidays during
Christmas and March Break.
Folk Artists
Many of Canada’s folk artists have origins in the north. Experience
Saturday concerts throughout the winter with the Haliburton County Folk

Ice Fishing:
Most lakes are fishable in Haliburton County. Call Ministry of
Natural Resources.

Ice Racing—Motor sports
The Minden Ice racing series goes most weekends at the Minden
Fair Grounds.
Ice Sculptures:
Fire and Ice, group exhibit in February. A mix of cool art, jazz
ice sculptures and glass blowing
Luge:
The Redstone River Luge Club is the second of it’s type in Ontario.

Winter Carnival
Enjoy the Haliburton Winter Carnival on Head Lake in the Village of Haliburton,
includes snowmobile events, kiddy rides, and lots of old fashioned fun.

Skating:
A combination of outdoor and indoor rinks available throughout
Haliburton County.
Skijoring:
Most dog sled operators, offer a skijoring experience of being
pulled on skis by the dogs.
Snowarama and Snowmobile Poker Runs:
Take place throughout the winter—on most weekends in the
many communities throughout Haliburton County. Support Easter Seal Kids
on January 28.

Snowshoeing:
Get off the trails and into the bush for this exhilarating sport,
claimed to be one of the fastest growing activities for the new senior
demographic. The new aluminum style shoes are much lighter, and if you
use the ski poles you obtain some upper body strength and more stability.
Sleigh-Ride:
Horse drawn sleigh-rides for groups of up to 12.
Tobgganing:
Enjoy this uniquely Canadian sport with the entire family. A
selection of toboggan hills are available throughout Haliburton County.
