Maple Syrup Production Updates for this week--Ministry of Agriculture

Weather forecasts for the upcoming week suggest good sap flow may occur early in the week and again by the coming weekend. Maple producers can check for new sap flow each day where temperatures warm to around plus 5 �C higher, following freezing nights. Where new sap flow is forecast, try to process previously collected sap from storage tanks as soon as possible to ensure storage for additional sap is available.

Winter Carnivals North of Toronto in 2009

Winter in Ontario traditions continue north of Toronto. Ski Season Open Near Barrie

Ontario Ministry of Tourism Reports: . Hardwood Ski northeast of Barrie and Highlands Nordic south of Collingwood have both opened their trails. Hardwood has opened 26 kms of trail and Highlands Nordic has 5 km open today. Several alpine operators continue to make snow and we expect to have a few areas open this weekend. Horseshoe Resort will be open Friday with as many as 3 slopes open.

Fall National & International Events North of Toronto


Ontario Travel North of Toronto the week of Sept. 15, 2008. Three major events are taking place this week north, north-east & north-west of Toronto.

The 2008 Georgian College Auto Show on September 19, 20, 21, is showcasing technological advances in the automotive industry and their direct impact on the environment. The slogan for this year (Renew, unite, evolve) also has an environmental or “green” focus.

The second major event is the 2008 International Plowing Match in Teeswater , Bruce County Ontario September 16th to the 20th... The focus is to highlight the many aspects of agriculture, rural life and down home hospitality. Experience Canada's largest outdoor agricultural exhibition.

The third main event is the change of the fall colours and views of the magnificent hardwood forests of Sugar maple, Striped Maple, Yellow birch, Beech, and Black Cherry trees north of Toronto.

More than 25 fall colour routes and road trips are suggested for your travel north in Ontario.

All of the events have family activities, educational information, and are reasonable in price for an affordable family fall outing. The fall colour displays are in most cases free unless you are paying for a park admissions fee.

Snowshoeing Wonderland North in Haliburton

Discover the Haliburton Highlands for a little snow shoe adventure into the rich forests and trails of the highlands. One of the great old outdoor winter sports that has been made new again is snowshoeing. At one point in Ontario's history going back into the 1800's many communities had organized snowshoe clubs. Snowshoeing was a major winter activity. Members wore team sweaters, hats and scarves, and held outdoor snowshoeing competitions with rival communities. Ontario Travel--Snow is back in Cottage Country

Ontario outdoor activities are gaining momentum as the snow has returned to the North with recent snowfalls. Check Weather and Road Conditions. Today the Ontario Ministry of Tourism says, "new snow was reported in the Huronia and Kawartha regions, where they received anywhere from 5 to 10cm of fresh snow overnight and there is more in the forecast for today. Ski conditions are being reported as a combination of groomed granular and powder on both the alpine and cross country trails. Skiing Starts North of Toronto--Ontario Fresh Snow


Horseshoe Valley resort was the first to open on Thurs. November 22, 2007, one of the earliest starts to ski season in Ontario. With the help of snowmaking and a new fresh snowfall Horshshoe Valley Resort should have runs open for weekend skiing

Santa Clause Parades and Christmas Tree Lighting North


Ontario communities across Ontario North of Toronto will be kicking off their Christmas season starting the weekend of November 16 with Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies and Santa Clause Parades. Many communities will have special festivals of lights including a representation of Canada's historic "First Light" at Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons in Midland Ontario (See Photo). The Huron Carol will be featured along with the glow of 2000 candles during this weekend. Walkerton Ontario will be hosting a Thousand Nativities representing more than 30 countries and cultures.
