Ontario March Break History

March Break, Spring Break, or School Spring Break are all versions of the first big holiday week after Christmas.  For many it is the spring break 10 day vacation covering two weekends signaling the end of winter and the beginning of Spring

Many say Spring Break it goes back to the 1800's when University students wanted a change of pace from the rigors of studying. As far as anyone can remember this all dates back to the need for teachers and students to refresh and enjoy the end of the Ontario winter, and the beginning of spring. There are now many versions of spring break and many different times associated with the exact holiday spring break dates. In Canadian universities, it is known as reading week, or, "Slack week" and is in late February or early March.

This is an important week for the Ontario Tourism Industry operators of hotels resorts and attractions as families with younger children and teens, who love Ontario's great outdoors and want to spend time snowshoeing, skiing, skating, with or without the kids. Many family resorts and destinations provide March Break children's programs where the kids are either learning, playing, or taking lessons
while the parents can enjoy their favourite Ontario winter sports. Visitors are encouraged to check the more than  50 Ontario March Break Getaway Packages or additional March events taking place throughout the month.

Depending on the year, Many K-12 institutions in Canada and the United States coincide their spring break with Easter and Passover.  whenever possible However this varies depending upon the actual Easter holiday and Passover dates.

Summer Vacation Planning Time
