Haliburton Highlands Dogsled Derby

We are thrilled to announce that plans are well underway for the 10th annual Haliburton Highlands Dogsled Derby to take place January 21 & 22nd, 2012 at Pinestone Resort & Conference Centre!!  We would like to express our huge thank you to Pinestone for coming on board to help sponsor and assist with the races again this winter. 

The race normally posts a $10k purse but this year it has been advertised as to be determined, local businness will be receiveing sponsorship letters shortly and we are hoping anyone who receives a boost in their business from the derby or anyone who wants to see the event continue will help out in contributing to the mushers purse.  The event is run as a not for profit and all money received goes to cover direct races expenses and the mushers prizes.

We expect the races to attract over 60 mushers and their energetic dogsled teams to Haliburton, Ontario as they compete in 4, 6 & 8 dog races as well as 1 and 2 dog skijoring and youth and the ever popular kid & mutt races on the Pinestone grounds.

Teams in attendance include some of North America's best sprint teams and hail from all over Ontario and Quebec in addition to Midwestern and

Eastern U.S.A.   The International Federation of Sled Dog Sports (IFSDS)

(IFSS) and the International Sled Dog Racing Association (ISDRA) sanction the event, with points earned towards qualification for the World Cup Championships.

This year we hope to add  more vendors to the races and some events inbetween the different races for spectators.  As in the past, the race is free for spectators to attend but donations to help support the races are always welcome as are volunteers!!
