Family Fishing-Free Weekend

Fishing in Ontario is a dream of many children in the Province.  Twice a year Ontario has Free Family Fishing Weekends where residents can try out the sport of fishing without having to buy a license.  Many tournaments are held on this weekend, which also coincides with Ontario Family Day Weekend.

Ontario Ice Fishing Weekend: Free Fishing For Families

If you or someone you know would like to try fishing in Ontario waters for the first time (or the first time in a long time), circle the weekend of February 19-21, 2011 on your calendar. For those two days only (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Monday)), Canadian residents can enjoy the fun of fishing in Ontario without a license during the annual Ontario Family Fishing Weekend. This weekend coincides with Ontario Family Day Long Weekend and Family Day public holiday.

Family Fishing Weekend is a great opportunity for families and friends to get outdoors and enjoy a popular winter sport together. "Families can use this annual licence-free weekend as an opportunity to try a great winter activity and have a good time.  Where safe ice conditions permit, local events include: During the Family Fishing Weekend, Canadian residents can fish licence-free in any public waters across Ontario, except those with a closed season. participants fish under the Conservation fishing license limits which are set out in the current Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. With the exception of the licensing requirement, Ontario fishing regulations, fees and limits continue to apply during OFFW days. Copies of the regulations are posted on the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources website, and are available in print at Service Ontario centres and other fishing license issuers ata variety of other outlets. The Family Fishing Weekend is supported by a partnership of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, the Canadian Sport fishing Industry Association, the Canadian National Sport fishing Foundation, t and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
