RV Campers On the Road Despite Higher Gas Prices—More “One Tank Trips”

Barry’s Bay, Ontario……….July 2008. RV Camping destinations within close proximity to major market areas may be experiencing longer stays for both families and couples on vacation in 2008. Locations like Chippawa Cottage Resort and Easy Living RV Park just south of Barry’s Bay offer a central location in cottage country that is about a 3-4 hour drive from the Greater Toronto Area, two hours from Ottawa—a one tank trip or less for most RV campers.

According to resort owner Donald Dunn, “We see future RV campers staying longer, and day tripping from Chippawa to the many attractions in the area. We are close to Algonquin Park and the towns of Barry’s Bay, Combermere, Renfrew and Bancroft for day trips and for the more adventurous there is white water rafting, and canoeing along the Madawaska River.”

A number of travel organizations have been promoting the one tank idea including Woodall’s camping organization that caters to RV campers and tent campers throughout North America.

Dunn adds, “I think their one tank idea to reach a specific destination and tour from that destination is an excellent way to save on gas, and reflects the future for many RV owners and campers.”

Chippawa has a pricing policy that rewards the RV camper with lower per day costs the longer they stay. Rates start at $45.00 per day and can go as low as $40.00. Seasonal rentals are even lower.

Fishing and boating continues to be one of the most popular outdoor activities at Chippawa as both the Ottawa Valley and Madawaska Valley are part of the Madawaska River system running from Algonquin Park to the Ottawa River. Lake Kamaniskeg is one of Ontario’s most spectacular lakes with 35 miles of boating opportunities as part of the Madawaska River system. Chippawa has both lake and river frontage with a 3000 foot fresh water sand beach.
