Set your Sails for
Atlantic Challenge Demonstration Day
at Discovery Harbour
Atlantic Challenge Canada will roll out an exciting Demonstration Day
at Discovery Harbour on Saturday, August 12, showcasing historic sailing
skills and nautical expertise for the visiting public.
The famous 38' Bantry Bay Boat Vitalité, known for its speed
and challenging sailing, will be put through her paces as the enthusiastic
Atlantic Challenge crew members take to the water. Utilizing skills built
from various International Contests, scheduled demonstrations throughout
the day will include sail handling, a jackstay transfer and a slalom
event. In the afternoon, visitors can participate in "hands-on" activities
such as sailor's rope work.
The relationship between Atlantic Challenge Canada and Discovery Harbour
is a long-standing one, beginning with the construction of the first
area Bantry Bay boat Vitalité at Discovery Harbour in 1992. This
was followed by Atlantic Challenge building a second vessel, Tenacité ,
at Midland Secondary School one year later. Atlantic Challenge continues
to use Discovery Harbour as one of its Canadian sail training centres,
and offers historic sailing programs to the public throughout the summer.
To round out the nautical day, Discovery Harbour's costumed staff will
interpret the lifestyle of the British sailor on the King's Wharf, including
fun hands-on rope work, servings of "grog", and stories of
the Brig and naval discipline.
The Atlantic Challenge Demonstration Day at Discovery Harbour is on
Saturday, August 12th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For information just

Discovery Harbour is operated by Huronia Historical Parks,
