Buddy HollyRaves On at King’s Wharf TheatreFriday, July 27th, 200 PENETANGUISHENE – One stage, one legend, one incredible show.Five years after it took the King’s Wharf Theatre stage by storm, Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story returns by popular demand to show audiences why “It’s So Easy” to fall in love with the legendary musician. More than 40 years after “the day the music died,” the beloved music of rock ’n roll’s golden era continues in this electrifying production that chronicles the life of Charles Hardin Holley from his roots, singing country music in his high-school auditorium, through his spectacular rise to worldwide fame, to his final performance with The Crickets at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. “Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story has become a classic in musical theatre and is known as the most successful rock ’n roll musical in the world,” says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment. “This production is a wonderful tribute to a true artistic pioneer.” A spirited musical biography, Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story will take you on an unforgettable journey through Holly’s triumphs and tragedies, from his humble beginnings singing country music in small-town to his rise up the record charts and into the hearts of music fans around the world. His unique style inspired and influenced many great musicians of the ’60s and ’70s, from The Beatles to The Rolling Stones. The tragic news that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper had died in a plane crash in America’s Midwest in 1959, not only stunned millions of fans around the world, but left a permanent void in rock ’n roll history that has never been filled. Theatregoers will be delighted as this tribute explodes into full-throttled joy with renditions of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits – classics like “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be The Day,” “Not Fade Away,” “Rave On,” and many, many more. The music truly raves on as the whole company energizes the audience with such classics as the Big Bopper’s rendition of “Chantilly Lace” and hip-swinging Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba” and a great doo-wop version of “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?” Zachary Stevenson dons the unmistakable horn-rimmed glasses to recreate his role as the legendary Buddy Holly. Stevenson truly inhabits the character, and successfully captures the idealism, power, and complexity of this musical icon. Stevenson sings, dances, and plays guitar with the same exuberance as his illustrious character, reproducing Holly’s vocal and instrumental dexterity in a performance that will certainly raise the energy in the theatre. Stevenson is backed by a first-rate ensemble of 13 talented performers: Andrew Bathory, Brenley Charkow, Karen Coughlin, John Devorski, Stuart Dowling, Steve Foster, Randolph J. Johnston, David Lopez, Laurie Murdoch, Bobby Prochaska, Mark Stewartson, Mike Walmsley, and Rennie Wilkinson.
