Will Collingwood Ontario Set New Elvis Record in 2007Collingwood, ON – Upon hearing the news that the Parkes Elvis Festival in the New South Wales town of Parkes, Australia had broken the Guinness World Record for the largest number of Elvis Tribute Artists performing the same song on the same stage at the same time, a record formerly held by the Collingwood Elvis Festival in Ontario, Canada, Collingwood representatives sent their sincere congratulations and accepted the challenge of breaking the record again. The Collingwood Elvis Festival in Ontario, Canada, the largest annual Elvis festival in the world, broke the pre-existing record in 2006 with 97 tribute artists performing on one stage in unison. With 170 tribute artists expected to participate in the Collingwood Elvis Festival in 2007 and even more in the years to come, organizers are more than confident they can break the new record of 147 when the time is right. Festival General Manager, Rosemarie O'Brien says, "We accept the challenge and look forward to breaking the new record. It may not be 2007 that we attempt it, but you can be sure that the record will come home to Collingwood in the future." Organizers of the 13th Annual Collingwood Elvis Festival, taking place July 26 – 29, 2007, will have their hands full with other special initiatives planned for this 30th anniversary year of Elvis' passing. Collingwood is particularly thrilled to be one of the festivals sending its winning Elvis tribute artists to Memphis to compete in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest™, the first tribute artist contest ever presented by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE). EPE's Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest will take place in August during this year's edition of EPE's annual Elvis® Week in August. The winner of that competition will be named the Elvis Tribute Artist of the Year. To narrow the field, contestants will be selected from existing contests around the globe that have signed up with EPE to be an official preliminary. In addition to its world renowned competition featuring professional, non-professional and youth categories, the 13th Annual Collingwood Elvis Festival features a street dance, venue tour, vendor alley, parade, midway, and 26 professional Vegas style shows including the Sweet Inspirations, Elvis' original female back up singers, appearing live on stage at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena with tribute artist Shawn Klush on Saturday, July 28, 2007.
