Monster 40-pound rainbow trout sets new O.F.A.H./Ontario Record

ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 25, 2005) - A record fish has been caught in the waters of Lake Huron, landing a Sudbury woman top spots in the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters' Record Fish Registry and new Ontario Angler Awards.

This week, the Royal Ontario Museum and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters verified that a 40.68 pound rainbow trout, caught off the shores of Little Current on September 21, is now an official Ontario record fish. The monster rainbow trout surpasses the previous Ontario record, caught in 1975 near Georgian Bay, by over 11-pounds.

"We're just happy to go out fishing. We never thought of catching a record fish ourselves," said 43-year old Joanne Vendramin who, for the past 15 years, has enjoyed hundreds of family fishing trips with her husband and two boys.

The O.F.A.H. Record Fish Registry was developed to promote recreational fishing and is the official scoreboard for anglers who dream of someday landing the "big one." Record setters receive a beautifully crafted, hand painted, fiberglass replica of their fish created by internationally acclaimed Advanced Taxidermy & Wildlife Design.

The new record fish has also been entered into the O.F.A.H. Ontario Angler Awards, a free program that recognizes outstanding fishing skills by all anglers, young and old, novice or professional. Thousands of anglers have already entered Ontario Angler Awards and have earned a collector series of decals and certificates courtesy of the O.F.A.H. and its sponsors.
