FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Folk legend Garnet Rogers plays Barrie in FebruaryThe Barrie Folk Society, in partnership with the Barrie Public Library, is excited to announce the return of folk legend Garnet Rogers to Barrie. Rogers, a legendary musician in the Canadian music scene will be playing a special show at the Library on Feb. 23. Barely out of high school, Garnet Rogers was on the road as a full- time working musician with his older brother Stan. Together they formed what has come to be accepted as one of the most influential acts in North American folk music. Hailed by the Boston Globe as a "charismatic performer and singer," Garnet is a man with a powerful physical presence – close to six-and-a-half feet tall – with a voice to match. His music, like the man himself, is literate, passionate, highly sensitive, and deeply purposeful. An optimist at heart, Garnet sings extraordinary songs about people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of the everyday. As memorable as his songs, his over-the-top humour and lightning-quick wit moves his audience from tears to laughter and back again. Garnet's last show at the Library sold-out, so make sure you purchase your tickets early. They are available in advance at the Library for $15 ($18 if purchased at the door). Tickets can be reserved with a Visa card by calling the Library at 728-1010. The show starts at 8 p.m. Garnet is a strong advocate of local food banks, so audience members are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the show for the Barrie Food Bank
