Southbrook Winery Announces Delicious Line-Up of Fall Events Taking Place at Its Rural Setting in Toronto's Backyard

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 20, 2005) - - Fall events include: harvest tours and activities, wine tastings and cooking demonstrations for foodies, wine lovers and families

Southbrook Winery, a rural oasis just 15 miles north of downtown Toronto, is announcing its extensive schedule of weekend wine and culinary events taking place throughout the fall.

Located on an historic, rural estate between Richmond Hill and Maple, Southbrook is a wine and culinary destination that showcases and celebrates the excellence of fresh, seasonal Ontario produce matched with the winery's award-winning, handcrafted VQA wines.

Throughout the fall, and much of the year, Southbrook offers educational and entertaining opportunities for food and wine lovers to taste and learn about pairing food with their favourite wines. Weekends in October and November now include a full schedule of activities such as winery tours, tasting opportunities, culinary demonstrations and harvest time celebrations.

Southbrook's line-up of fall culinary and wine events include:

- The 10th anniversary of the winery's premium Triomphe line of wines from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 2 with an open house, tours, pre-release and barrel tastings of wines, barrel-making demonstrations, and complimentary seasonal food and wine matches;

- Seasonal cooking demonstrations and wine matching led by winery owner Bill Redelmeier at 2 p.m. on October 22, 23, November 12, 13, 26 and 27;

- Complimentary samples of curried squash soup for visitors on weekends in October; and

-Special new release, library and comparative wine tastings and barrel sampling on weekends throughout October, November and December.

"Starting with the 10th anniversary celebration of our award-winning Triomphe wines on October 2nd, we're offering visitors a wonderful array of educational and fun events throughout the fall. We encourage people to come to Southbrook to experience harvest, explore new tastes in food and wine, and visit our picturesque, 19th century family estate just 15 minutes from downtown Toronto," says Bill Redelmeier, owner of Southbrook Winery.

Denise's Country Store, a farm market beside the winery, offers fresh, seasonal produce as well as freshly baked pumpkin and apple pies, and homemade preserves. Harvest activities for the family in October include: tractor rides for pumpkin picking; a Bouncerama Carnival for kids with a bouncing castle, rides and games; face painting; caricature drawings and fresh, hot food.

"With all of the fresh, local produce available, autumn is the best time of year to eat," says Bill Redelmeier, owner of Southbrook Winery. "Nothing tastes better than local produce directly from the fields matched with wines made from locally grown, Ontario grapes. It's a natural, harmonious marriage!"

Gourmet connoisseur Redelmeier will be on-site at Southbrook Winery throughout October and November to lead innovative educational culinary presentations for both public and private audiences, such as cooking demonstrations, seasonal food and wine matches, and wine and barrel tastings. Southbrook's wines, which are renowned for higher acidity and flavour intensity, make ideal matches with food.

"Southbrook offers all the charms of Niagara, but it's right in downtown Toronto's backyard. It's an ideal daytrip destination for foodies, wine lovers and families," says Redelmeier.
