Ontario Resort and Travel Destinations Celebrate Canada's National Wildlife Week — Be an eco tourist and see Canada’s great outdoors.

National Wildlife Week celebrates Canada's North
Canada's North will be celebrated from April 8th to 14th during National Wildlife Week. The theme, Canada's North, along with the slogan "Canada's North — ours to protect, the world's to cherish," will give Canadians the opportunity to learn about the unique ecosystems and amazing wildlife of Northern Canada while highlighting the issue of global climate change and its effects in the North.

Festivals and events in celebration of National Wildlife Week will take place across Canada throughout April. Many organizations, governments and individuals plan these events. The majority of events in Ontario are taking place in Ottawa http://www.400eleven.com/ottawa.html Nepean
http://www.400eleven.com/hotel-locations/hotels/ca-on-nepean.html, and Midland Ontario http://www.400eleven.com/midland.html.

If you are unable to attend the events we suggest that you consider a spring drive into Ontario north of Toronto to experience one of the many travel routes where you may be able see birds migrating, moose or deer browsing, or beavers busy with their spring repairs. National Wildlife Week is celebrated each year during the week surrounding April 10th, in honour of the late Jack Miner who was instrumental in founding Canada's conservation movement and is credited with saving Canada geese from extinction.

This year's National Wildlife Week theme is timely and relevant because of increased discussion on global climate change and the occurrence of International Polar Year, a major research effort studying the changes to the Arctic and Antarctic climates, wildlife and social communities.

"Global climate change is, unfortunately, very harmful to the ecosystems of Canada's North," says Colin Maxwell, the Canadian Wildlife Federation's executive vice president. "This year's National Wildlife Week theme, in conjunction with International Polar Year, will raise awareness about this growing problem and inform Canadians on how they can help."

The Canadian Wildlife Federation sponsors National Wildlife Week year in co-operation with provincial and territorial wildlife agencies, Parks Canada, the Museum of Nature and the Canadian Wildlife Service (a division of Environment Canada).

For more information about National Wildlife Week, please call 1-800-563-WILD (9453) or visit the Canadian Wildlife Federation's website at www.cwf-fcf.org.
