Toronto's Vacation Land
Toronto residents and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) residents plan weekends in Ontario's cottage country. Mini-vacation weekends or day trips, or the new staycation options are plentiful. "Cottage country" is an elusive region consisting of many weekend resort destinations. It generally starts just north of Toronto when you see your first lake, a change of terrain with less pavement and more forests, trees, lakes and trails. A significant segment of Lake Ontario is north east of Toronto via Highway 401
The Highway 400 Way
Using the google map below, you can start to trace a route on Highway 400 in a northerly direction to see the profusion of lakes with blue colours that emerge as you reach into the Simcoe County Barrie area--Lake Simcoe. Highway 400 will take you deep into lake country and ends north of Parry Sound near Sudbury. Highway 401 is accessed at the junction of Highway 400 and heads north east towards eastern Ontario cottage country.
