Ontario Family Ice Fishing Weekend

This year Family Fishing Weekend is February 18-20, 2017 is designated as OFFW license-free fishing days. During all other periods, most Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase an OUTDOORS card and a fishing license to legally fish in Ontario. Backyard Bird Count Family Day Weekend

The annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is coming up on the February 17-20, 2017 long weekend on Canada Heritage Day and Family Day Weekend in Ontario. The four-day event is free and is open to bird watchers of all ages and skill levels. Participants watch birds for any length of time on one or more days of the count and enter their tallies. The GBBC is a joint North American project of the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology with Canadian partner Bird Studies Canada.

Celebrate with your family! Take a tour of our current exhibitions and curl up near the fire with lunch from the Radio Cafe. 
Family Day Workshop – The Rotary Education Centre at the MacLaren
1:30 to 3:00 pm, $5 per child/ free for Friends of the MacLaren (family category). Materials included. Join Meghan Thorpe from 1:30 to 3:00 pm as she guides you to create a framed family tree using a variety of media. Please sign up in person at 1:00 pm on the day of the workshop, as space is limited. Exhibition tours are available upon request at the Greeter`s Desk before and after the workshop.

The tournament is held over Family Day long weekend, and no fishing license is required to participate. We encourage families, kids and fisherman of all skill levels to attend.
