MINET’S POINT – BARRIE’S COTTAGE COUNTRY IN THE CITY
Minet’s Point is Barrie’s year round resort destination for day trips or on an overnight holiday. Families can enjoy the Minet’s Point beach and windsurfers, sailors and paddlers the waters of Kempenfelt Bay on Lake Simcoe. All of the supplies for a family fun picnic can be found just around the corner close to Lakeshore Drive and Minets Point Rd and Young Street. The Farmer’s market stand with fresh fruit, berries and Hewitt’s fresh corn is available from the mid summer to the fall. Canning’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlour is right at Minet’s Point Park. One of the deepest sections of Lake Simcoe is off the Minet’s Point Park with potential for Lake Trout and Lake Simcoe Whitefish. Parking and washrooms facilities are available. BIRD WATCHING IN BARRIE
Minet’s Point Park in Barrie is a favourite spot for bird watchers. It is a bit more sheltered here, and has a number of wooded areas and shoreline edge for shelter. The migration of waterfowl make the shore line of Kempenfelt Bay Lake Simcoe a favourite location for birdwatchers. With more than 7 km of trails around the bay in Barrie, one never knows which species will surprise your with a sudden appearance. Minets Point park is fun for kids plus it has Joye’s Ice Cream Parlour complete with outdoor seating, kids fun table, and beautiful flowers. Some of the most popular ice cream is from Breyers and Tracey’s Old Fashion Ice Cream including Black Raspberry Bugaboo Fudge, Moose Tracks, Caramel Caribou, Triple Chocolate, and Chocolate Monkey…..Joye’s personal service and talking animals will bring you back to the historic Canning Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlour…one of Barrie’s best ice cream locations operated by Joye Canning for 13 years.
Barrie hiking, walking and cycling trails and the sandy hill at the edge of Kempenfelt Bay are just around the corner from Minet’s Point Park, off of the paved trail. A nice interlude from the traditional slides, swings, and climbing apparatus for some old fashioned stone throwing and hill running will wear the kids out in no time. Barrie sunsets are some of the nicest in Ontario…Sunsets change as the season changes as the colour of the water of Lake Simcoe along Kempenfelt Bay may show a green or a deep blue as the sunsets behind the City of Barrie and the twinkling night lights begin to shine along the shoreline.
For many serious windsurfers Minet’s Point in Barrie has been a favorite spot to pick up the winds off Kempenfelt Bay… and head out towards the Oro shoreline of Lake Simcoe and back to Barrie. Many windsurfers make this a year round adventure and convert their summer boards to winter boards when the ice forms.
