As a heavy December snow loomed and temperatures finally dipped into the freeze zone, a day beside a blazing furnace learning the art of glass blowing was a perfect spot to be.
Yours Outdoors offers a wide range of authentic awesome experiences that are either 1 or 2 day adventures taking places anywhere and everywhere amid the winding hills of the Haliburton Highlands area.
The setting for this YO experience is in Tory Hill, Ontario, on a beautiful old church property. The workshop is called ‘Some Like It Hot’ and it is spent at Artech Studios, with professional glass artists Terry Craig and Jennifer Wanless-Craig. At the end of the session, you go home with beautiful pieces, made by you!
Terry Craig (in photo above), an expert in glass art, will guide you through making your own beautiful and impressive pieces. Not to be scared though, Terry helps with the more difficult aspects of blowing glass, like collecting molten glass out of a 2150 degree F oven, or keeping your delicate skinned hand off the hot rod! Big thanks for Terry for keeping my work hands safe! These are a few of Terry and his teams’ tools.
Glass is but one part of the this great workshop. It also includes a wonderful fresh made lunch, sometimes with seasonal local food (when available). It is a opportunity to meet new people and get to know what it’s like being an artist living away from the big city.
Skill level required by you, is zero. All you need is a curious spirit and willingness to try out something super cool (well, super hot).
Stay tuned as we try out and blog a few more Yours Outdoors awesome authentic experiences. They range in activities from ice climbing, snowshoeing, cycling and more.
In the meantime, you can check them out here.
