No or Near-No-Cost Events & Activities This Family Day in Ontario
Family Day in Ontario is all about spending time together as a family and not necessarily about spending money. Fun events and activities north in Ontario await anyone who has a big or small budget. If you’re a little kid or a big kid and love to play in the snow, then heading north in Ontario is your best place to find it.
Is any event or activity truly free? Not always, there’s transportation, incidental (er accidental?) shopping, food and other ‘wants’ expenses along the way that come up. Finding something to do, especially if you’re a big family group, that has free admission or is an activity you can do in a free public place, well, that’s a wise thrifty place to start.
Here are a few suggestions to have a no-cost or near-no-cost this Family Day.
Ontario Family Ice Fishing Weekend
This year Family Fishing Weekend is February 16-18, 2019 and is designated as OFFW license-free fishing days. During all other periods, most Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase an OUTDOORS card and a fishing license to legally fish in Ontario. We do not encourage you at all to go out and do this by yourself. The season has been up and down and large pressure cracks have been reports on Lake Simcoe, Penetanguishene etc. If you are going to consider ice fishing on the holiday weekend, be safe not sorry, and leave the hard stuff to the professionals who have organized and made safe all these great events for everyone.
