The Algonquin park dog sled day trip features a 90 minute lesson including orientation, hook up and harness followed by a 4 hour mush. Each team has two people per sled and a team of 5 to 6 huskies. This is a classic Algonquin park winter adventure combining a 2 day Algonquin dogsled expedition and one night winter camping in a heated prospector tent. Dog sled expeditions travel with 2 per sled , six dogs per team. Don’t worry about experience as you will receive a thorough lesson and orientation before heading to the dog yard. This is an authentic winter adventure where you will be driving the sled and working with the dogs. The experience is very physical. Accommodation is shared in large prospector tents, heated by wood stove.

Ghost Tours at Discovery Harbour – Wednesdays: 9:00pm to 10:30pm – July 5 to August 30
A spooky guided tour by candlelight featuring encounters with apparitions in the window and footsteps in the hallway. Tales of actual people associated with the Military and Naval Establishments will include that of the McGarraty brothers who died on the march from York in June of 1831 and the tale of Private James Drury who died New Year’s Eve 1836 on guard duty at Officers’ Quarters.
Piratefest – Saturday August 5 – 10:00am to 5:00pm
In partnership with the Town of Penetanguishene and Urban 365 Slide, the day is a new family event planned to draw 5,000 people to the combined festivities. Shuttles will move visitors between the dock in Penetanguishene and Discovery Harbour.

Experience the phenomenon of hauntingly magical and stirring outdoor exhibits of hand-carved pumpkins, all set against the night-time backdrop of Discovery Harbour. But BEWARE….new characters will be lurking about in the expanded TERROR ZONE!!
This impressive reconstruction takes you back in time to a story of cultural contact, determination, drama, and survival. Visiting groups coming to Sainte-Marie among the Hurons marvel at a world that existed over 370 years ago. Your group will explore the historic site and get a sense of the challenges that were faced by those who founded and worked at this famous mission. Active demonstrations by historically-costumed staff provide insight into 17th century European and First Nations culture, lifestyle, and technology.
During July and August, the historic site is pleased to offer fun and informative demonstrations and “hands-on” activities that share aspects of life in the 17th century. They include listening to music, playing First Nation games, learning about birch bark and fire-starting techniques, medicines from the time period and taking part in a clay workshops. Additional activities for children may feature quill pen writing and making corn husk figures.

The site will come alive with Canada’s Historic Game during the two day event. Visit the site of one of the first recorded accounts of the Indigenous game and try your hand at skills competitions, interactive Lacrosse displays and meet and greet with Toronto Rock players. Here is a unique opportunity to bring technology and conservation together. Participants will gain the skills necessary to use a Global Positioning System to explore their way a team building challenge. Much of Dave’s landscapes and still life subjects are derived from the area. You will see exquisite sunset, Georgian Bay, Algonquin Park and East Coast paintings.
Tour his large Studio and see works in progress. Surrounded by antiques and memorabilia collected from his travels, Dave’s Studio is where his works of art are created and is the location for his workshops and paintings. Weekend workshops are offered for groups and private sessions in the art of pastels. These workshops give students with all levels of ability “step-by-step” instruction in the art of pastel. Students will learn techniques Dave has learned over the past 30 years.
