While the hiking is great in the Highlands, why not take the most direct route to the top with an introduction to rock climbing. Never rock climbed before? No problem! Let us get you outdoors, into nature to reach new heights. While the experience is designed with the beginner in mind, there is also lots to challenge those up and coming rock stars! We are pleased to offer rock climbing in partnership with Basecamp35, whose expert instructors will set you up with all the necessary equipment, teach you the basics of climbing and guide your fun and safe climb.
Wild Edibles Forage and Lunch
Come forage the woods, wetlands and roadsides of the Haliburton Highlands. Learn how to identify and when to harvest the choicest parts of wild edibles. Returning to Windfall Food Forest we’ll preserve a part of our harvest drawing on the ancient art of fermentation. Then we’ll gather around the long trestle table nestled among the pines overlooking the lake to savour some local and wild fare.
Gems Beneath Your Boots
This half day tour involves a visit to Greenmantle Farms near Wilberforce where you will explore some amazing undisturbed “gems beneath your boots” including fluorichterite, orthoclase, tremolite, actinolite. apatite, and quartz. Discover how these remarkable crystals formed and how the minerals below can influence the flora and fauna above.
Explore the back roads of the Haliburton Highlands. This tour will take you through forests, farm and hamlet, and along the shores of rivers, lakes, and wetlands. You will discover the rich and diverse natural and cultural heritage of the Highlands. Who knows where we will go and what we find and do?
Path of the Paddle
Carve a paddle through the still waters on Margaret, Dan, Horse, and McEwen Lakes. On this full day guided canoe trip you will discover the backcountry beauty of the Highlands, practice your paddle strokes, portage a canoe, learn some canoe tripping tips and visit a canoe builder who crafts birch bark canoes. This trip is well suited to the novice and experienced canoeist.
