Created and Built in 2003 as a rustic and very simple and quiet Algonquin Couples Retreat.
Located on an abandoned railway line on the Madawaska River, which is perfect for hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Nearby Horseback riding, and endless Algonquin Hiking trails. Enjoy free use of snowshoes.
Experience a winter wonderland of rugged Canadian Shield, majestic hardwood forests, old growth white pine, hemlock and yellow birch. Ski or snowshoe to cliff-top lookouts and spectacular ice falls. Catch a glimpse of wildlife such as moose, deer, owls, martens, grouse and much more. The Frost Centre ski and snowshoe trails offer adventure and discovery for the whole family, only three hours north of the GTA.
Cross country ski on 26km of groomed and track set trails for the morning, take a break or eat lunch by the woodstove in the historic towermans cabin and then head out for an afternoon of snowshoeing on 11km of backcountry snowshoe trails overlooking beautiful St. Nora Lake.
Closer to home, we have a short nature trail that makes a nice place to stretch your legs. In winter, why not bring along the snowshoes or we have some for rent. If you are looking for longer trail systems to hike, bike, snowshoe or simply explore there are several in the area. Trail runners and mountain bikers can explore the B102 off Otter Lake Lane or even the trails across from civic address 554 on Arbor Vitae Road. Further afield, the Bear Mountain Trail system is found 13 km west of the resort on the south side of Highway 60. It leads to a great vantage point and a series of trails at the north end of nearby Bark Lake. The Thomas P Murray Recreation Trails south of Barry’s Bay on Highway 62 are equally impressive. Of course many prefer to explore nearby Algonquin Provincial Park where several trails are found along Highway 60. We provide maps and free use of the local Backroad Mapbook to help you pick (and find) the trail of choice.
Getaway and enjoy the magic of winter. Explore a variety of snowshoe and cross-country ski trails that wind through the heart of the Canadian Shield. Experience a winter wonderland on a rented snowmobile, a horse-drawn wagon ride or by skating on the frozen lake. Afterwards, head inside to the indoor pool, whirlpool, games room or fitness room. Or, book a relaxing massage before dinner. Weekends bring you speciality seminars, family activity programs and dancing to the wonderful music of Jamie Williams.

Snow comes to our area in November and doesn’t leave until April, which gives us a very long winter season to enjoy.
In the winter, snow blankets the area with majestic beauty. Trekking by cross country skis or snowshoes allows visitors to view the areas’ breathtaking sights. You can also bring your skates and skate on the rink that is available right outside your door. For those who would like to snowmobile, the lodge is only a mile from the OFSC Trail F system. Unlike trails in southern Ontario and the Northern US that are packed with snowmobiles, we have the luxury of hundreds of miles of pristine trails right outside your door with no bumper to bumper traffic. There are also many lakes in the area with excellent ice fishing for Walleye and Trout.
Bring plenty of film and memory cards so friends, family and co-workers can enjoy the beauty you experienced. Take pictures of one of the greatest winter paradises in the world.

Looking to try something different? Check out our moonlight snowshoeing, available every Saturday during the winter, weather depending. Purchase your ticket at the front desk
Play in the snow. Because, really, what’s not to love about snow? It’s the ultimate play material – you can slide on it, mold it, throw it, pack it down and build it up. Build a snowman or a snow fort. Play a game of snowball tag. Slide down it on a toboggan. Or make snow angels.
Go snowshoeing in the forest. It’s a remarkably different experience than a summer hike. Listen to the snow crunching underfoot. Look for animal tracks and try to decipher who made them. Watch the birds flit from tree to tree. Bring along a thermos of hot chocolate or soup and find a quiet place to just sit and marvel at the wonder of nature.
Go skating or cross-country skiing on a frozen lake. Some North Muskoka cottage resorts have rinks or trails already cleared and groomed so that all you have to do is strap on your gear and go.
And the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Head out on a crisp winter night for some stargazing. Because when was the last time you saw the stars? Really saw them in all their glory, untainted by city lights? They are brighter and seemingly infinite when viewed in the dark. While you’re out there, listen to the trees cracking in the cold as you relax next to a toasty bonfire.
And when you’re done, head inside to a warm meal, hot drinks or games shared next to a cozy fire. There’s nothing quite like the comforts of home. And when you can find those comforts after a day spent exploring winter’s wonders in North Muskoka, it’s even better. So go on, make some winter memories this year, North Muskoka-style.
