Experience an authentic day of dog sledding at the northwest corner of Algonquin Park. Learn how to work with a dog team including how to hook up and harness a team of huskies. Mush your team through the scenic winter wonderland. If you love dogs, you will love this experience ! The Algonquin park dog sled day trip features a 90 minute lesson including orientation, hook up and harness followed by a 4 hour mush. Each team has two people per sled and a team of 5 to 6 huskies. The day trip runs from 9am to 3pm.
This is a classic Algonquin park winter adventure combining a 2 day Algonquin dogsled expedition and one night winter camping in a heated prospector tent. Dog sled expeditions travel with 2 per sled , six dogs per team. Don’t worry about experience as you will receive a thorough lesson and orientation before heading to the dog yard. This is an authentic winter adventure where you will be driving the sled and working with the dogs. The experience is very physical. Accommodation is shared in large prospector tents, heated by wood stove.
Get ready for 2 adrenaline packed days of winter thrills ! The Algonquin Park Dogsled and Snowmobile adventure offers a chance to drive your own team of huskies and learn all about dog sledding as well as a full day of snowmobiling. Relax and unwind with three nights accommodation – two a lakeside Inn and one at the solar powered Algonquin Cottage Outpost.Three dogsled mushers and over 400 dogs make Algonquin Park’s north west corner one of the world’s top centers for Dog-sledding. Equally amazing is the snowmobiling! The Ontario Federation of snowmobile clubs maintains 1000′s of kilometers of world class snowmobile trails.
Closer to home, we have a short nature trail that makes a nice place to stretch your legs. In winter, why not bring along the snowshoes or we have some for rent. If you are looking for longer trail systems to hike, bike, snowshoe or simply explore there are several in the area. Trail runners and mountain bikers can explore the B102 off Otter Lake Lane or even the trails across from civic address 554 on Arbor Vitae Road. Further afield, the Bear Mountain Trail system is found 13 km west of the resort on the south side of Highway 60. It leads to a great vantage point and a series of trails at the north end of nearby Bark Lake. The Thomas P Murray Recreation Trails south of Barry’s Bay on Highway 62 are equally impressive. Of course many prefer to explore nearby Algonquin Provincial Park where several trails are found along Highway 60. We provide maps and free use of the local Backroad Mapbook to help you pick (and find) the trail of choice.
Getaway and enjoy the magic of winter. Explore a variety of snowshoe and cross-country ski trails that wind through the heart of the Canadian Shield. Experience a winter wonderland on a rented snowmobile, a horse-drawn wagon ride or by skating on the frozen lake. Afterwards, head inside to the indoor pool, whirlpool, games room or fitness room. Or, book a relaxing massage before dinner. Weekends bring you speciality seminars, family activity programs and dancing to the wonderful music of Jamie Williams.
