Christmas Tree Lighting’ activities signal the start to winter fun in Ontario resort and cottage country destinations north of Toronto. Celebrations of light take place in the many rural  villages, towns and cities accessible via the 400 series highways and Highway 11 north in Ontario.

First Light
Sainte Marie Among the Hurons, Midland
November 23-25, November 30 and December 1-2 & 7-9, 2017 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Experience Sainte-Marie’s spectacular “First Light” Event as we illuminate the famous historic site with over 5,000 candles. Recognized by Festivals and Events Ontario as one of Ontario’s “Top 100” Events, “First Light” creates a wonderful holiday ambiance, featuring lots of hands-on activities for children, seasonal and folk music, Aboriginal performances, and much more.

Community Christmas Tree Lighting
Midland
November 22, 2017
Join us in celebrating the season with a magical glow of lights as we sing along to Christmas carols, drink hot chocolate and visit with Santa. Event starts off at 5:30 pm with the Pipe & Drum Band marching its way downtown King St. from Yonge St. to the Town Dock, where our Town Crier will start the official tree lighting ceremony at 6:00 pm.

Barrie Festival of Trees
Barrie

Barrie lights up along Kempenfelt Bay’s Lakeshore Drive on Lake Simcoe through until the spring of 2015. See the Barrie Festival of Trees and Lights photo gallery where some of the 50,000 lights which form the Festival of Trees Display at Centennial Park will be five animated displays.

Light Up the Park
Parry Sound
November 17, 2017
 Market Square Park. An annual event to start our Festive Season. Free turkey draws and hot chocolate. Music and caroling starting at 6:30 pm with a local student receiving the honor of lighting up the whole park, followed by a visit from Santa. Come join the celebration.

Annual Barrie Tree Lighting Ceremony
November 18, 2017
Start the holiday season with this annual tradition held in conjunction with the Santa Claus Parade. Free horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, hot chocolate, a festive holiday film, and a visit from Santa. Cap it off with the lighting of the tree followed by a fantastic firework show.

Owen Sound has a History of Local resident Sally Sargent was quoted in a past Sun Times article as saying it was fairly easy to determine who worked for Noma Lites during the 1950s and early ’60s in Owen Sound. “You’d be able to drive down the street and see all of the homes all lit up with lights and you would know they worked at Noma. . . . You’d almost have to wear sunglasses when you went by some of the houses.

Annual Tree Lighting and Carol Sing

Festival of Trees
Minden
November 24-26, 2017
The Festival of Trees is a Christmas-time fundraising event which takes place at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre, with funds going towards community programming. Traditional decorated Christmas trees are placed throughout the buildings and Heritage Village for raffle. There are also wreaths, garlands, gift baskets, gift certificates, a gift shop and free fun activities for children. This is a magical event with plenty of good cheer.

Alight at Night Festival

Come experience the enchantment of horse-drawn wagons through the night. Book a romantic carriage ride for two on the Pommier Carriage (rides are limited so book early.) Hop on board a life-size Toy Train. Holiday music including carolling at Christ Church, festive dining, hopping and other seasonal surprises all add to the ambience of the event. Alight at Night Festival remains a favourite family tradition, and one of the region’s main attractions in a variety of fun-filled Overnight Getaway Packages.

Perth

Downtown Heritage Perth BIA presents the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS adjacent the Crystal Palace and in the Tay Basin. The fun begins at 6pm with music and a bonfire beside the Palace, followed by a fireworks display at 6:30pm sharp. After the fireworks, the Crystal Palace will opened for the mass lighting of the Community Christmas Trees. This is the BIA’s way of ringing in the Christmas and Shopping season in Downtown Heritage Perth.
